Website Hosting & E-mail

What is web hosting and why do I need it?

Well, once you have your website built, you need to put it onto a server on the Internet so that people browsing the Internet can find it.

What problems will I solve by moving website to a web host and what it will cover?

Hosting costs cover the price of the space on the server and for the bandwidth in and out of your website. Bandwidth is the amount of traffic your website receives and thus the amount of data it uses. The more your website is used, and hence the more interest you are attracting, the more bandwidth that is used.

If you have your e-mails with Behind the Scenes Environment, your website hosting is free.

Domain Name Registration

Your domain name should reflect your business name and if possible portray who you are and what you do. Try to obtain a domain name that is:

  • Catchy
  • Easy to spell
  • Easy to remember
  • Easy to pronounce
  • Easy to type.

BTSD can register a domain name for your business.

A Domain Name is your piece of real estate on the Internet.  It's your business name and it lets people know where to find you. Domain names makes your website easier to find and enables you to have professional e-mail addresses such as, yourname@yourbusiness.co.nz.

Search Engine Optimisation

Do you ‘google it’ when you’re  searching for something?  When is the last time you used the white or yellow pages?  Websites allow us to offer so much more information to a potential client than a print advert – for about the same cost.  Search Engines have become one of the most effective online marketing tools available today.  As the criteria for top placement changes continuously, we want to give you a way to stay on top of it without having to pay further costs for the same service!

One of the most important things you can do to increase your web site traffic is to increase your search engine ranking by implementing an SEO strategy. The position of your website on the first pages of a search is absolutely critical to your success as research shows that browsers will usually find someone to fulfil their need within those first 2 pages.

BTSD optimises the websites we build for search engines. What this means is we build your site to appear high up on internet searches, meaning more customers finding your site.

Because BTSD writes the programming code by hand we know that it is optimised and that the search engines will be able to read your site easily.

BTSD uses the hyper text markup language tags to correctly markup the content of your pages.  This helps the search engines understand which parts of your web pages are headings and which are paragraphs.  This helps the search engines rank your pages as they will give priority to the words and phrases in the headings over the content of the paragraphs.

BTSD will work with you to find keywords that your customers are likely to use in the search engines to find you and put them into some hidden code behind your webpage to further assist the search engines linking people looking for your services to your website.

Search Engine Optimisation Considerations

SEO is not immediate - it takes time for the search engines such as Google to come round and read in your site.  When the search engines do come round they will only read in a few pages at a time so it can take months for your entire site to be indexed and searchable.

Because older websites have history and records to verify that people have used them in the past it can be difficult to get a new website ranking highly.  However, BTSD uses the latest technologies to provide the search engines with as much information as possible to assist the ranking process.

Putting your keyword in the domain name will greatly assist your ranking for those keywords.

SEO should work behind the scenes and not interfere with the workings of your website other than increase traffic.

Online Shopping Environment

On-line Shopping Environments can be provided in 3 ways.

At its most basic level, an e-commerce store can be as simple as presenting products and/or services online and allowing customers to purchase them through the use of downloadable, e-mailed, or online purchase forms. In most cases, the transaction is completed and payment is arranged outside of the online environment.

The next level of an e-commerce solution allows customers to provide their credit card details during the purchase. The credit card details are then stored securely allowing the selling party to process the transaction and receive payment. Again, like the previous basic method, the transaction is often completed outside of the online environment.

At a higher level, an e-commerce store integrates with third party organisations to enable the processing of credit card payments to be performed in real-time. Monthly and per transaction fees are charged by the third party organisations that process these transactions.  This is by far the most popular, cost-effective and efficient form of online sales

Should you choose to use a BTSD Shopping Environment, you will receive the following:

Online user registration  ::  Shopping Cart  ::  Online order placement with real time payment processing (Paymex)  ::   Product Attributes – size, colour, how many etc  ::  Shipping & Freight Calculations  ::  Easy uploading of product images and descriptions  ::  History of orders  :: Drag and Drop product placement  :: and so much more.

Contact us with your requirements and we'll get in touch to discuss the options available.

Newsletters & E-mail Marketing

Display your newsletters on your website and send them out to all your contacts.  People will be able to subscribe to the newsletter by completing a simple form on your website.  This will store in a database that will automatically send newsletter to all subscribers when you push the ‘send newsletter’ key.  People wishing to unsubscribe can also do this from your site.

E-mail marketing is a form of direct marketing using electronic mail as a means of communicating messages to a targeted audience. An increasing number of businesses and associations are using e-mail marketing to launch highly targeted e-mail marketing campaigns that increase revenue,  keep clients 'in the loop' and boost sales leads.

Google Analytics

An essential tool for any website, Google Analytics lets you collect masses of information on who is interacting with your website, where they're from, what are your busiest days, which pages they visited, what keywords they used if found by a search engine and at what point in your website do they 'drop out'.  If browsers are not viewing beyond the first page, you may need to look at changing your layout to catch their attention.  Are they leaving at the checkout point in your online store?  Are your prices or freight charges too high?   If you know that a high percentage of people are visiting your site but not buying, or trying to buy and giving up before they and have completed the sales process, you can take steps to remedy the situation.

Google Analytics is a complimentary feature on all websites developed by BTSD.
